Homeschooling during Quarantine

I learned a valuable lesson on patience today.
Grant really didn't want to read to me.
I sat beside him and waited.
I waited for about 10 minutes while he sat on the couch, working through his frustrations.
Finally he read and finished his chapter.
He had several subjects he didn't want to work on, but knowing I would happily be there to help him gave him the fortitude to keep going.
At first I didn't want to do this and was ready to throw up my hands and say, "Just go play."
But I knew Grant needs to stay at doing his work, so I needed to stay at helping him.
We ended up getting a lot done, and even had fun doing it. 🤗

Art

Even though school has been out, my kids' teachers have encouraged lots of good activities.
One activity was from an art teacher to make a rainbow with objects from around the house.
James and Grant had fun with this.

My 2 little dogs love to sleep on top of the couch.

Happy Birthday 🎂 Jaden

If Jaden had a theme for his birthday this year, it was ORANGE!
Jaden turned 13 this year on Friday the 13th, in March.
You'd think he was jinxed with bad luck, but actually it was his best birthday yet!
He received a skateboard, an orange bedset, and Joyanne made him an orange cake.
Jaden was so excited to be able to watch PG-13 movies now.

We love Jaden and are glad he is part of our family.

Minute to Win It

We spent the evening as a family in quarantine and let each family member come up with a Minute to Win It game.

Grant did a jump roping activity.
Who could get the most jumps in a minute without messing up.

James came up with putting a pong pong ball on a spoon in your mouth and walking across the room and then dropping the ball in a bucket.
Whoever dropped the most balls in the bucket wins.

Jaden had us see if we could stack 25 pennies in a minute without them falling.

Hiram had us see how many ping pong balls we can toss in a bucket on our head in a minute.

Noah did a name that tune.
Joyanne had us pass a lifesaver mint on a toothpick in our mouth from one to the other.

And, I ended it all with a tissue box full of ping pong balls tied around their waste and they had to jump around to get as many ping pong balls out as they could in a minute.

The night was fun and a much better way than just sitting and watching TV. 🤗

Grandpa's Rash

Grandpa ended up with a rash on his arms.
The dermatologist gave him an antibiotic, but then he got worse with little rash dots, like Chicken Pox, that would pop and puss would ooze out.
I know, it doesn't sound pleasant.
Back to the dermatologist he went.
A different prescription was given and in a week, Grandpa was doing much better.

I subbed for a class and loved this idea.

Braces No More

On March 9th Joyanne had her braces removed.
She is so excited to be free of them.

Joyanne without braces.
Doesn't she look beautiful?!

Young Women Winter Camp

So, it's not REALLY camping, but we just call it that.
It's more like a party.
We ate good food.

There was a climbing wall.

Monkey in the middle was a favorite game.

The girls loved relaxing in this net that hung from the ceiling.

The adults enjoyed sitting and talking.

This was a display of books that I would like to have in my home.
